Most Police forces, Fire and Rescue, Paramedic emergency service vehicles and some Public bodies have data recorders fitted within vehicle fleets which record the activities of the vehicle and driver.
The devices are generally pre- programmed to record the vehicle status and position, speed, use of controls i.e: brake applications, use of lights, signals and emergency controls set against a time line.
Forensic examination can reveal details of rates of deceleration / acceleration periods of braking and crash data sufficient to assist within an investigation of either a road traffic infringement or collision.
Upon disclosure of the ‘raw data’ files an independent analysis can be carried out and presented within a report for information or legal submission in proceedings.
